A building permit is required for:

  • New Homes
  • Additions to existing home
    • Bathroom, Kitchen, Basement Remodels
  • Attached/Detached Structures
    • Garages/Shed/Pole Barn/Accessory Building
    • Decks
  • Solar Panels
  • Plumbing work
  • Electrical work
  • New furnace, air conditioning, water softener, iron filter
  • Swimming Pools

Obtaining a building permit:

A building Permit can be obtained, after approval of application materials from the Building Inspector located at the Town Hall at W1195 Marietta Ave.

What do I need for a building permit?

GENERAL

  • Applicant Name
  • Name and address of laborer
  • Project Plan
    • Type
    • Estimated cost of material/labor.
    • Project Square Footage - if applicable.

GARAGE, SHED, ADDITION, DECK, POOL:

  •  Jefferson County Zoning permit
  • Construction Drawings

FENCE:
No higher than 6 feet, no closer than 1 foot to Lot line.
Not allowed in front yards.

  • Survey, sketch of lot indicating location on lot

NEW HOUSE:

  • If your building site has sewer and/or water: an impact fee must be paid at the Town Hall. The receipt is to be provided to Jefferson County Department of Zoning to apply for a zoning permit.
  • Sanitary permit - if building in an area that requires a septic system.
  • Architectural Approval (if building in a subdivision)
  • Plat of Survey: 3 originals from a registered land surveyor.
  • Plans: 3 sets.
  • UDC Application

COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL:

  • Zoning permit
  • State approved plans if over 5000 square feet.
  • Town Board approval

Dog Licenses

All dogs five months of age or older living in the Town of Ixonia MUST be licensed by March 31st each year. A late fee of $5 will be collected if the owner does not obtain a license by that date. If a new dog is acquired after that day, you must obtain a license within 30 days. Rates are $10 for neutered/spayed dogs, $15 for unneutered/unspayed.

Lost/Replacement Tag Fee: $2

State law requires all dog owners to provide a current rabies certificate of vaccination from a Wisconsin veterinarian prior to issuance of a dog license. If you pay by mail, please include a copy of the rabies certificate along with a check or money order for the correct amount. You may also come to the Town Hall to pay for the license.
